1920’s civilian photo album. I bought this album because it is unusual in several respects. While most civilian albums show family or group portraits this album shows a cross section of life in Japan. Locals on a bus, a baseball team holding a sign in both English and Japanese, different outings of what appears to be a club or organization. All photos have stamped descriptions. 33 photos in all. Good condition. M

This photo album dates to the mid-1920's and contains photos taken by a USA merchant marine who travelled mainly in the Pacific....to Asia, the Philippines, China, Japan and more. His album contains more than 160 black and white snapshots, most of which I believe he took himself. Each photo is held by photo corners. Many photos have handwritten captions beneath. At least one of the dates in these cations reads 1926. According to the captions, locations include: Cebu, Philippines; Shanghai,China; Manchuria; Hong Kong; and Osaka, Japan. Subjects vary widely but include: ships, buildings, army barracks, streetcars, shrines, oxen, churches, children, women washing clothes, opening a coconut, livestock,
a funeral procession, horse-drawn carts, a Chinese priest, men at work, and people under arrest. A few photos are missing. 162 photos in all. The value of this album is that it shows life across the Philippines, Japan and China during the 1920's. MPrice: $600.00
