Collection of 29 colourful Angolan trade cards on world leaders. They were produced by Sociedade Industrial dos Tabacos de Angola, based in Loanda. The company was 100% owned by British American Tobacco. These cards were produced between 1925 and 1931. The caption on the back shows SITAL’s trademark and mentions the Triunfo factory. The advertising reads “The most modern and best-equipped factory in Colonia, powered by electricity. Meticulous handling of tobacco. Selected products. Unrivaled manufacturing."
NOTE: Sociedade Industrial dos Tabacos de Angola, Lda. (commonly known as SITAL) was a historic tobacco manufacturing company in Luanda, Angola, founded during the colonial period (with records and notable collectible card series dating back to the late 1920s and 1930s). The company eventually merged with British American Tobacco Angola. The primary distribution was within Angola. However, because SITAL was a major commercial entity, these packs and cards also circulated to some extent via trade networks into neighboring African territories and back to Portugal.
SITAL’s Fábrica Triunfo was located in Luanda, Angola, specifically situated right in the historic commercial heart of the city near the Mutamba district. Mutamba was Luanda's central transit and business hub during the 20th century. The factory's presence there made its cigarette brands, like Delta and Baía, deeply woven into the daily life and memory of colonial-era Luanda. Following Angola's independence and subsequent restructuring of national industries, corporate mergers eventually phased out the independent SITAL name. The legacy of tobacco manufacturing in Luanda shifted out of the downtown core and was later absorbed into the FTU (Fábrica de Tabacos Ultramarina / Unified Tobacco Factory), with modern distribution hubs moving to the Viana Industrial Pole outside the city center
