membership card from the Societa Africana D'Italiaiea-p-eph 079membership card from the Societa Africana D'Italiaiea-p-eph 079

This is an actual membership card from the Societa Africana D'Italia, dated 1920, to a new member Lucio Crico. Membership entitled a member to a membership in the Societa Geografica Italiana and the Societa D'Explorazione di Milano. Note: Before its campaign in Somalia, a growing social movement developed within Italy to start expanding its influence, as other European countries were ahead of Italy in this regard. However, there was also a huge shortage in capital and serious economic problems in Italy. To meet this challenge, Cesare Correnti organized an expedition under the Societa Geografica Italiana in 1876. In 1877 the travel journal L’Esploratire was established by Manfredo Camperio and in 1879, with the help of the Italian industrial establishment, Societa di Esplorazioni Commerciali in Africa was created. Club Africano was established in 1879 and changed its name to Societa Africana D'Italia in 1880. M
